The sea is a convincing reason to arrive. It does not have to be the only reason to stay. Build an Istrian journey around contrast: waterfront mornings in Rovinj, then a second base in Motovun above the Mirna valley. Do not turn the inland section into a hurried list of tastings. One producer visit, arranged directly, leaves more room for conversation than three rushed appointments.
Ask what is actually available in your travel season. Choose a lunch that belongs to the place rather than a menu built around expectation. Then leave time to do very little. The purpose of going inland is not to collect more sights. It is to return to the coast with a fuller sense of the country behind it.
